One of the leading figures bringing these landscapes to life is Frank Toogood — both a battlefield guide and one of SplashMaps’ specialist battlefield cartographers. Frank has been using our large-format maps throughout the season while guiding visitors for Anglia Tours across some of Europe’s most significant historic sites. His work on the Somme and Ypres maps has already helped countless visitors visualise troop movements, frontline positions and key moments of conflict. Now, alongside SplashMaps, Frank is also helping launch our latest collaborative project: the new D-Day June 6th Map.

Designed in our signature large format, these maps are ideal for battlefield guides, educators, history enthusiasts and families tracing personal military histories. Every SplashMaps Battlefield Map includes essential troop movements, major landmarks and strategically important locations, allowing users to understand how battles unfolded across the terrain itself.

Immersive engagement with the past

Whether you are preparing for a battlefield visit, researching a relative’s wartime story, teaching military history at home or marking a place of remembrance, a SplashMap Battlefield Map offers a uniquely immersive way to engage with the past.

Somme centenary year

This year’s commemorations make these maps especially timely. D-Day will once again be honoured on 6th June, while 1st July marks the centenary remembrance of the Battle of the Somme — two defining moments in modern history for which SplashMaps now offers beautifully detailed commemorative maps.

Have us research a map

And our collection continues to grow. Alongside the Somme, Ypres and D-Day maps, we maintain an extensive archive of historical mapping and can often source specialist battlefield coverage on request. If the battlefield or campaign you are searching for is not currently in our collection, simply contact SplashMaps and ask about our research service. We may already have the foundations for the map you need.
