It’s a chill thrill I got from this Expedition and Event Planning Inspiration.
The Polar Academy
The Polar Academy works with the ‘invisible’ children 14-17 years of age – often the victims of bullying, abuse or simply crushed by a lack of self-esteem and confidence. Over a period of 12 months the Polar Academy team helps build them into leaders and role models, to truly inspire thousands of other young people, so that they too can reach their full potential.

Teamwork in dynamic conditions
Nigel Williams, a long time SplashMaps advocate and a leader on this latest Arctic expedition says;
“Firstly, thank you for getting the Finland maps made up for The Polar Academy and sent through in good time.

They were brilliant and very much appreciated by the team. Team work and leadership is very much part of the programme and these maps enabled opportunities for team briefings and for everyone to follow their progress over the 10 day skiing, sledging and camping expedition. The route which covered around 100km of Arctic Lapland ended up deviating from the GPX files at times but that was always going to be the case. Some freakishly warm weather and rain meant we had to keep off some of the lakes as the surfaces turned to water and slush on top of the thick ice. Not every day you get a bow wave on skis and a sledge”.
Clarity when teaching in all conditions
CEO and Polar Medal Award recipient, Craig Mathieson says;

“Thanks David, the SplashMaps were really great. I was really impressed by the clarity you’ve managed to get. They are also a great teaching aide for the kids I work with. No more soggy maps to work our navigation from! Thanks again”
About the Polar Academy
The Polar Academy is a unique programme operating in the Arctic in winter with teenagers and including field science and joint indigenous community projects. Paramount throughout the year is the mental and physical welfare of our young participants.
