Small boats encounter big navigation challenges. SplashMaps, on show at Southampton’s ‘Sea Work’ expo this week, could well be the solution to most.
The need for physical charts

Physical charts are the essential back-up to electronic systems. In fact they are required by law. But on small boats, particularly open ones like RIBs (Rigid inflatable boats) there’s no escaping the spray. So traditional folded paper charts just don’t cut the mustard. Perhaps a weatherproof fabric chart can?
Sea charts of Scotland

Proven motivation for our winners in Largs. Our Sea Charts of Scotland were up for grabs earlier this month in Largs. Encouraging people onto the water in gusting winds would normally be a challenge. Not when the honour and a boosting of your chart collection is at stake it seems! We’re proud to sponsor more Championships this year. Put us in touch with your local club and lets see what we can do.
Nautical Charts
It’s essential that your nautical charts contain the key information. In the UK’s waters the UK Hydrographic Office make the Admiralty charts on paper. We use exactly the same image, printed onto sea-proof fabrics. It was great to have this recognised by the MoD’s Small Boats team who got their callipers straight onto this Chichester beauty.

Marine Navigation
When it comes to marine navigation, who better to talk to than the UK Border Force. From their training in Plymouth to the essential day to day activities in small craft, a chart you can pen your plan on and wash off after was a revelation.
