As the dust settles on two extraordinary journeys, we’re thrilled to received two reports from the extremes—one deep into the Yukon wilderness and the other into the remote highlands of Mongolia—have returned with remarkable stories of resilience, discovery, and, of course, the essential role played by SplashMaps in navigating some of the planet’s most unforgiving terrain.
Dan Smith’s Yukon Adventure

First, we catch up with solo adventurer Dan Smith, who you might remember from our Adventure Habits Podcast , episode 5.

Dan has now completed his ambitious navigation of the Stewart and Hess Rivers in the heart of the Yukon. Paddling solo through fierce white-water rapids, negotiating unpredictable tributaries, and navigating dense bear country, Dan’s journey was nothing short of epic. With survival skills tested daily—from water filtration and fire-starting to constant bear awareness—his map never let him down. In his words, “The SplashMap was the only bit of kit that didn’t falter in the rain, rapids, or repeated unpacking. It became my lifeline.”

Scientific Exploration Society in Mongolia
Meanwhile, over at the inspiring Armchair Adventure Festival, none other than John Blashford-Snell, one of the UK’s most celebrated explorers, took to the stage to share news from the Scientific Exploration Society’s latest mission.
Their team has been trekking across Mongolia, deploying cutting-edge camera traps and tracking evidence of the elusive and endangered Snow Leopard. In a region where digital navigation tools often fail and extreme temperature swings challenge every piece of kit, it was once again SplashMaps that proved indispensable. “Reliable, rugged, and readable under any condition,” John noted, “they are the one constant we could trust.”
