Honouring the Boldest Missions: SplashMaps with the Cockleshell Heroes CS22

At SplashMaps, our mission has always been clear—support every adventure, no matter how daring. For the past three years, we’ve been honoured to work with the Cockleshell Heroes CS22 team, a remarkable group of veterans dedicated to retracing the steps of WWII’s most heroic missions. Our rugged, weatherproof fabric maps and sea charts have played a vital role on their expeditions—paying tribute to the boldest missions of the past while guiding in the present.
Operation Frankton

From the French Atlantic coast to Bordeaux, we created detailed expedition maps for Operation Frankton, one of the most perilous commando raids of WWII. The “Cockleshell Heroes” paddled over 70 miles in canoes to sabotage German shipping—an act of immense courage that continues to inspire.
Heroes of Telemark

The CS22 team later braved Norway’s frozen landscapes to commemorate the Heroes of Telemark, retracing the ski routes used to thwart Hitler’s nuclear ambitions. Our custom Norway maps guided them through these exact escape routes, reinforcing the stories made famous by the legendary mission.
Veteran’s Falklands Expedition

Most recently, we crafted sea charts for the Falklands expedition, marking 43 years since the UK’s victory over Argentina. These commemorative charts were so cherished that they were framed and gifted to the island hosts—now displayed proudly in homes across the islands and (pictured here) on Pebble Island.

Commando Missions Premiere
Our journey with CS22 reached a new height with the premier of the Sky History Channel series “Commando Missions” at the Ciné Lumière, London. There, alongside veterans and serving warriors, we celebrated the legacy of Churchill’s command to “set Europe ablaze.” Our maps were not just practical tools, but treasured mementos—used, remembered, and respected.
Damien Lewis – the latest famous historian to own a SplashMap

Notably, SAS historian Damien Lewis, author of several military bestsellers, purchased our 80th Anniversary Victory Map and was fascinated by Allan Hunn’s research on the WWII Pyrenean Escape Lines—a story also brought to life through our maps.
