Our Tour of Britain climaxed at a spectacular festival to the bicycle in London’s iconic Trafalgar square.
The race surrounded us & drew big happy crowds
Sweetspot, the event organisers, lived up to their name finding us the ideal space to trade from. We sold solidly and soon got caught-up in the electric atmosphere. New London satin maps and long distance trails from Harvey Maps were soon low in stock.

But how did this fantastic opportunity come about? Some months ago I dropped into Ordnance Survey to discuss joint marketing opportunities. Emma Stephens who heads their partner engagement team told me about their Market Development Funding. Overall there appears to be a refreshed effort for OS to support businesses in the Leisure sector. I was contacted at the beginning of August with 2 great pieces of news;
- SplashMaps could have a free stand at the final stage of the Tour of Britain
- Ordnance Survey would pick up some of the cost and even help us man our stand!
A to Z of London
It’s mutually beneficial of course. Ordnance Survey gets more royalty and don’t have to resource an entire stand. But Lester, my account manager from OS, did an amazing job… getting up at 5:30am to join us and staying all the way through to show the level of commitment OS is beginning to show to this initiative. Having the OS represented helped for sure. What next with OS? Come visit us on 3rd and 4th October with Bear Grylls!
Having Dawn Hickey on the stand, our resident Cub/ Scout leader from the Peak District, seemed to filter in all the scout leaders. Amazing how many were there! Seen our woggle friendly map necker?
Being in London the whole world’s tourists seemed to appear too in endless procession. Linguist John enaged in most languages and could probably sell fabric maps to lesser known tribes in Papua New Guinea.
